What is the Artillery Sound Effects Library?
The new Heavy Artillery sound library captures the sound of medium distant howitzers firing with cracking blasts and booming explosive aftershocks.
Each shot is recorded from three perspectives, each with its own sonic texture. In addition, two bonus designed versions are included: a crisp “cinematic mix” as well as a beefy, gripping “thunder mix.”
How The Artillery Sound Effects Helps You
What’s cool about the Heavy Artillery sound effects library?
Are you working on a war film or battlefield TV show? Perhaps you’re designing sound for a Call of Duty-style game? There’s a good chance the Heavy Artillery field pieces will be a perfect match for the weapons in your project’s era. The sounds in the Heavy Artillery sound library are authentic recordings of real-world howitzers used globally since 1940. They’re quite rare; few recordings of these weapons exist.
The sounds are exceptionally clean. They are free from background crowds, voices, traffic, birds, or other distractions. This means the clips are easy to use; they can be pitched and warped without worrying about creating artifacts while designing.
Each clip has a protracted fade out or long “tail”. This means that you get to use not only the snapping blast of the howitzer shots, but also the unique soundscape of the explosion as it ripples and reflects among the urban landscape before fading away. The clips were also recorded with perspective – around 50 meters away – for an authentic “battlefield” feel.
The Heavy Artillery sound effects library was designed to be flexible. It includes three perspectives recorded, edited, and curated in tandem. This allows you to switch between microphones and perspectives for alternative sonic textures.
You can also work faster by quickly dropping in the pre-processed crisp “cinematic mix”, over-the-top “thunder mix”, the “raw mix,” or designed “power mix” without the need to slow down your workflow by mixing or processing yourself.
A Worldwide Mix of Artillery Sound Effects
Need a backdrop of relentless shelling for your cinematic soundscape? Want the sound of warfare while your video game character charges the battlefield?
The Heavy Artillery sound effects library portrays the sound of M101 C3 howitzers used by the United States, Canada, and scores of countries worldwide. Also featured are recordings from a Ordnance QF 25-pounder howitzer which was used by the British army as well as many other Commonwealth countries.
